Engine re-seal
 

So, I keep getting deeper into the engine. It been mostly sitting for 25 years. I got it to run ok, but not great. Leak-down and compression are good. After checking/rebuilding all the obligatory items I'm now considering a top-end rebuild. It obviously has had a leak for a long time.
Any ideas on where this leak is originating and the proper fix. Could this all be coming from the breather or is it potentially from the case seam?

The gasket inder the breather cover has a tenancy to dry out and then becomes a fume leak from the hose inside and the engine inside.
Thermostat oil seal also dry and get brittle as does the idiot light sender all in the same area.
And the engine is 40 years old.

The breather hose itself could have been leaking too. They tend to crack easily with age. This area is very prone to leaks, and it does not seem to come from the case seam. Replace hose, replace breather cover gasket, replace oil sender, replace oil thermostat gasket and leaks should be gone.

That's my take as well. It does look like a "misting" type of build-up.
