Opinion on using case sealant between head and top of cylinder

Hi,

I have 98mm nikasil pistons and cylinders. They cylinders do not use a head gasket. I would like to know any thoughts on using a small amount of case sealant on the head just like what is used for the cylinder base gasket, as well as your reasoning.

Thanks,

- Andrew

The cylinders are Carrera so you need to torque to 15ft# then go back again, hit 15 and then 90 degrees with the torque wrench
There is a bevil on the Carrera cylinders where they meet the heads and youre torqueing to the Carrera spec.

I wouldn't use sealant here. It hardens and then will crack when the heads heat up and cool down. It might not hurt but I wouldn't take the chance.

+1 with Eagledriver

The surfaces were designed to seal by just contact and pressure.
