Ultra sonic cleaning - case
I will be having the case ultra sonic cleaned before reassembly, this was done once and the main oil galley plugs were removed and replaced by the shop. But I sent the case back to pin the center main web and line bore 1 thru 7 mains, there is loose metal shavings in the case. Should I trust ultra sonic cleaning to ensure that any shavings that may have entered the oil galley's to remove them? Or should the plugs be pulled again? Does removing the plugs cause the hole in the case to enlarge needing custom plugs? I see that another vender sells the main oil galley plugs.

Hi, the nature of ultrasonic cleaning is that it will remove chemically attached or baked on sorts of crud and corrosion, floating it off in the cleaning solution, but it won't remove physically large pieces of debris from the item being cleaned. If you had metal cutting debris in the motor and no one removed it using conventional means before or after ultrasonic cleaning, then afterwards you would have very clean debris still laying in the motor. I don't know about the plugs, but your engine machinist would be able to tell you. I haven't been in my Porsche motor yet, but I am unaware of any need to go to some oversized plug. Best of luck, Bill S in chilly Ohio

I like screw-in plugs myself....just dont trust press in ones since I had one pop out on a small block chev once.
And...if you need to remove them...all it takes is an allen key. Bob

I'm thinking one plug should be pulled and maybe all the spray jets, if not I would think there would be air pockets in the oil galley's while in the tank. Threading the hole's not a bad idea if the hole size will work with a pipe plug.
