plans for a six motor test stand
would any one have some plans or pictures of a flat six test stand for running/tuning a motor outside the car?
thanks steve |
Its not really difficult: you simply need to replicate how the engine is mounted in the car, add an oil tank, appropriate oil ines, cooler w/fan, and a flywheel with ring gear and starter. Naturally, a fuel system is needed thats commensurate with whats in your car.
An empty transmission case will help make this all possible,.... :) |
Do a search on YouTube for "Porsche Engine test". These are several good examples.

Here's a couple of pix for you. The 1st two pix are from a previous Pelican post., that I saved,..I thought that is was a good example of what I'd like to build. The 3rd pic is an engine test stand, that I am currently using, that was designed for V8's, that I modded for the 911. I bought it as Costco for $300 or so, several years ago. Not as elegant a design as the other shown, but It works very well.
Good luck with your project. regards, al http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1258304669.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1258304689.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1258304702.jpg |
big thanks AL it looks like a great design, strong and simple

I have thought about this many times, even discussed the design with Grady. But, unless you are building it to accomodate a dyno of sorts to put a load on the motor, all you will be able to do is tune it for idle and make sure it doesn't leak...... :)

what is the down side to running the fixed hubs and brakes for a "poor" mans dyno
(it might help to get readings for emissions although estimating load would be difficult) What is the aprox weight of a 3.0 engine and 901? |
In the classifieds there was a fellow selling setups with housings to put the starter on and mate to the engine. They were not very expensive!

Anyone know what happened to these test stands in blue above? When you click the link, only the engine adapter rings are available now...
