Piston ID

I am trying to find out what pistons I have without pulling the cylinders. I was told the motor was rebuilt a few years ago with a lot of "high performance parts" It is a 1980 Euro 3.0. I with the help of the board have already id'd the cams as WEB20/21 and would like to know if the pisons are anything special. The motor was running a large port CIS. The pistons have 112 M 059 in very small letters on the top.

There is a group of numbers on the inside of the piston such as
KS 95152 or
Mahle 93L7 or
Mahle95L67
95L 70 Mahle
or some other group of similar numbers

Bruce,
I am just trying to find out without removing the cylinders, if that is possible. I thought someone with a lot of knowledge such as yourself might be able to decipher the numbers on top. Hey, just a shot in the dark. Thanks, Phil

For the model year 80 the euro 911 had 8.7 cr. The factory used a thinner base gasket on the 8.5 cr US cylinder to raise the compression.
From this view its hard to tell the height of the dome but the 9.3 and 9.8 have a definite peak at the 10 oclock position of the piston.

The pistons & cylinders do both have Mahle on them. The only numbers I found under the pistons were 9317 and 120C. But I was doing it with a mirror and I could be backwards( maybe the 7 is a L .The rod is 9301031050R. I have pictures of the cylinder and skirts. Thanks for all of your help. Phil

Dear Bay Pawn,

I agree with Bruce on this one.

I believe you have a 8.5-1 Comp.Ratio Mahle piston with the ID 93L7
under neath the piston crown.

I had in my hand today a 9.3-1 Comp. Ratio Mahle piston from a 3.0 l with the ID 95L67. It had a much bigger peak and valley.

I believe the Euro 9.8-1 Comp. Ratio Mahle piston has the ID 95L70 underneath the piston crown. It has a distinctive circular depression along with the high peak and valley.

Hope that helps.

Mark.
