OK to use late sump cover on oil pump/sump pickup?

There's a 4-rib oil pump installed in my 2.4. It has the standard older-style sump pickup, without the screen. Recently I picked up a new sump cover, as mine is pretty beat up. It came with an updated sump filter screen. The sump cover has a convex shape to it (and, annoyingly, has no drain plug).

My question is, is this cover ok to use w/my older oil pump? I am concerned about starving the scavenge side of the pump.

I wouldn't do it-- the later style cover is intended to be used with the bowl-shaped pickup. Reproduction sump plates are available with the drain plug. There are also some finned aluminum ones if you like that.

Aaron, I see that yours is also a convex base - so am I ok to use this OEM convex plate w/o drain plug, on mine?

John, I hear you - but the reason I ask is that the sump screen seems to be made to work with both the old non-bowl-sump and late convex sump plate. Here's a pic for reference:

That one was started use on the SC because there was pressure pro[B]lems on hard corners so it was put in to mainain pressure in the system. It can be used on either sump covers. The indent recess is for the magnet,

Woops, sorry misread your post. You can really go either way and it not be a problem. The later intergral pump was designed with a lower pickup, further reducing the oil lvl in the engine. Running a later sump plate on the early style pickup will not cause any problems.
