70' high compression 2.5 liter cam question
 

I'm in the middle of building a 70 cased 2.5 liter 10.5 to 1 motor for my 914-6 build. my motor is coming along slowly and i've been collecting parts as i go. My question is this the cams i have (they came with the motor) are Elgin cams the numbers on the cams say that they are 306/288
306 I .496 288 E .463 Lobe center 102 Lift at lap 5.0 mm.
I am concerned if these cams will fit my build. i would like a good all around motor. I would rather have power in the middle of the power band than all at the top.
Does anybody out there know if these will work for me or should invest in somthing different. The motor will be a long stroke as well as twin plugged.

I have a 2.7L track car with Elgin 310-296 cams, and they're pretty racy. Really nobody home until about 5500, and it revs freely to 8000. The 306-288 should be a little tamer, but then again your engine is a little smaller displacement too. It you are looking for an engine with a meaty mid-range, you might consider something a little tamer.

As for cams, I hear people talk about a "mod S" cam that sounds like it might suit your scenario. I believe Elgin, Dougherty, and other grinders would have mod S grinds. Others on the board will probably know more specifics than I, or just give Elgin or Dougherty (I think he's on Pelican as camgrinder or similar) a call.
