Do I need a Steve Wong chip to break in my new motor?

1987 3.2 rebuild getting close to going back in.
9.5:1 compression JE Pistons
DC20 cams from cam grinder,
High flow dual outlet muffler
Still stock Cat for right now, though a pre-muffler or test pipe is probable.

I have not bought a Steve Wong chip yet. I plan to, but wonder if it will run well enough with stock Motronics system for a good breakin.

Here's my thought as to why: With the improved breathing of the exhaust and cams, I expect it will run lean with the stock mapping. Lean is good only in that I shouldn't have to worry about over rich washing down the cylinders and preventing a proper ring to cylinder seating.

Lean is bad in that it runs hotter combustion temps than the correct mixture. Though it is January, and I don't really expect to be driving much before springtime. Just enough to get it broken in, and to the DMV to get it registered.

see my thread for more info on my engine rebuild.
