Updated Tensioner came apart - Question
Problem: I removed my chain housing cover (Passenger side) and discovered the nipple, spring, and ball had come loose from the tensioner, I tried for hours to put it back in, disassembled the tensioner, etc. There doesn't seem to be any way to fit the three feet from the nipple back into the slot.
Question:Has anyone had success repairing this part? Background: I recently upgraded the tensioner and replaced the chain ramps, and a few weeks ago developed a leak on the passenger side which I have determined to be coming from the cam shaft O-ring and gasket. My intent was to replace the gasket. The tensioner is less than 6 months old. Question: Could the tensioner which had lost its spring and ball have created more pressure in the chain housing causing the leak? Drivers side tensioner was fine and no leaks. The whole nipple thing, the way it attaches seems really cheap and I cant see how it passed through the Porsche quality assurance committee. It would have been much better to design a pressure release cap with the nipple that locks in with a spring clamp or lock ring. Thanks, Shane |

Thanks Aaron, I sent it in for a warranty exchange today. SmileWavy
After reading through the threads it seems that this has been an issue in the past. I am a bit weary of using the updated tensioner and am wondering if I should use the old style. Shane |
