Installing injector sleeves
 

Is there any trick to this? I read some posts, but everyone is asking about how to remove them rather than installing. The CIS is out of the car, I put in new o-rings, soaked them in fuel, the sleeve goes in but I can't get it to remain in all the way. It wants to come out 1/8 inch or so above the intake runner. I used a socket on the inside step and a clamp to press it in, but it comes back out a bit. Since the engine will be supercharged, I don't want to lubricate the O-ring. I don't want it popping out later under boost.

You have to pean it in. I used an automatic punch to make 3 small imperfections (peens) around the top of the lip of the intake pipe where the sleeve goes in to the pipe (looks like factory did it). You would have filed these off to get the sleeves out to begin with. I'll see if I can find a picture...

Why did you soak them in gas??

I did grind off the stakes with a dremel to get the old ones out. I do know about peening them in, but the problem is that in your first picture I see the sleeve is at least flush with the intake. In my case, when I press it, in, it comes back out and doesn't stay flush like your first picture. It's like the rubber in the o-ring doesn't seat and so pushes it back out.

I soaked in gas because that is what you are supposed to do to the injector o-rings so I figured to do the same with the idea that it would be a type of lubricant to insert it. Unfortunately, it evaporates very quickly.

John, you need some type of lube like soap or silicone grease, when they snap in place you won't blow them out with low boost.

I'm pretty sure I used some sily-cone based lube on my rings. glad you were successful!
