Proper material for intake gaskets?

In the process of resealing a 930 motor. I have some higher end gasket material I have used on other cars to make custom gaskets, and the stuff works great. I was going to use it to replace the original "intake to head" gaskets...

Which leads to my question. The original intake gaskets seem to be made of a fibrous material (asbestos?), rather then typical rubberized gasket material. Are the temps on the intake gaskets really so high, that a fiber gasket is required? I think in the long run, the rubberized gasket material would seal better...unless temps prohibit its use...I know the exhaust side of the heads has the copper gaskets where it meets the SSI...

The replacement Pelican gaskets look like paper, at least in pics...
