Everything was going so well........
 

Hi All, as i said everything was going so well with the rebuild, i,ve asked a couple of questions, but it hasn,t been that bad until, putting the chain housings on and starting to fit the cams i,ve noticed that i,ve fittied the timing chains (which have master links) with the opening side of the link on the inside, is this a problem?, i now it will be if i want to split the chain,but what about running it like that, it has a circlip on each post of the link, so isn,t like the the e clip links that have to be fitted the way the chain is traveling, so not to get knocked off.
The link does sit abit higher than the rest of the chain,so i,m thinking it might touch the case when moving.
any thoughts would be most welcome

There is room for the chain and the link. The most important thing is the lock being proper for the travel of the chain. As long as youre not hooked to the cam you can bring the link around and work with it to set it properly.
If youre rebuilding I dont see why you would use a snap link chain because there is no reason to open it. The builder I knew and taught me said if the chain is worn out so the engine would be too

Thanks Bruce, the link i have has two small circlips, one on each post of the link and not the long clip that slides over the top of both of the posts, the chains were changed about 4k ago ,when i had a top end rebuild done by someone who didn,t torque the head studs up correctly (that,s why i,m here again), so the link should be ok to use this way around?...

He lost the proper clip I'll bet and innovated!

Ditch it and fit new would be my advice.

Hi Davidppp, the link is a proper master link , as pelican sell this type on the parts site, it,s just abit higher than the rest of the links in the chain and i don,t know how much the chain moves when running and if it might catch the back of the chain housing, if i can get at the link clips to undo it , can i just turn the link around to face out or because it,s run for 4k does it have to stay the way it is.
