Timing Question

I've installed an Electromotive Crankfire ignition, and have the initial setup running on the car (82 Euro SC). I'm looking for some guidance as to what I should set the timing advance to

Hi,

One would need all the specs of your engine, what octane fuel you use, and where you live (temperature ranges) to offer anything constructive. :) :)

stock 3.0L 82 Euro spec motor. I live in upstate NY, and run 98 octane fuel without Ethanol when possible (sometimes I'm stuck getting gas with ethanol)

The factory ignition timing for your single plug 9.8:1 engine was "not more than 25 BTDC @ 6000 rpm" Max advance is in by 4000 rpm. This was for 98 RON fuel. Upstate NY is still in the US and fuel is sold by CLC octane, 93 CLC is close to 98 RON. You may get away with a few more degrees of timing, especially at -20F, but this engine is knock limited and the advance will be less than ideal with pump fuel.

Paul is spot-on and you'd be wise to mirror the factory advance curve found in the shop manual for your engine. Remember, tune your car for the lowest denominator; oxygenated 93 octane gas.

If you don't have access to the manuals, take (or send) your distributor to someone with a distributor machine so they can give you the timing specs from idle to 6K.
