911 Camshaft Oiling Failure
 

I have a recently re-built 1973 RS 2.7 engine which has suffered a camshaft oiling failure. It appears the spray rail nozzles have clogged with a soft whitish substance similar in appearance to silicone sealant however no silicone sealant was used in the engine assembly.

Has anyone experienced this problem?

Without seeing this for myself, anything I offer is simply an educated guess,..... :)

"Whitish" substances are generally sealants of some kind and not restricted to silicones. Excess sealant of almost any kind makes its way to the spray bars. In some cases, it can be a byproduct of aluminum corrosion.

When you rebuilt your engine, did you remove the spray bar oil passage plugs (in the cam housings) and clean those out?

Precisely, what sealants did you use????

I've only found carbonized oil particals from oil coking in a turbo clogging my cam spray bars and that looks like course ground black pepper or burnt coffee grounds.

Cut open your oil filter and look for more of what you've found for more ideas what it is and then clean everything the oil travels through so hopefully it doesn't happen again.

In answer to the question as to what sealants I used.
I used the red Wurth sealant recommended in Wayne's book. I can't remember the name. I used it on the case joint, bottom of the barrels and under the cam housing. I used a product called Three Bond sparingly on the valve covers, main seal and the seal behind the pulley. These locations cannot access the oil galleries.

Wouldn't any gasket material/sealant used on the cam covers/ chain covers, etc be caught by the oil filter?
