Dude, that sucks, Sorry to hear that. Myself, I have to service the axles on my RS before it goes on the road. I'm going to drill the bolts and safety wire them just in case.

I had the same thing happen to my 914 just after I got the motor back into the car. I was lucky as I heard an odd noise as I pulled into the parking lot @ home. The last bolt backed out just as I was 10ft from my stall.

I am sure you are aware of this but, make sure no CV joint grease gets on the threads.

Dang! that's clean!

Carrerax 03-27-2010 03:55 AM

Tom, can you post a few pictures of your CD/MSD boxes mounted and also a close up of your coil mounts? Im also building a 3.2ss with twin plug and 46 PMO's and looking at different ways to mount things.

lindy 911 03-27-2010 06:04 AM

Shane,

My build ended up being very similar except I left the bore at 95mm. GE 60 cams, 46 Webers, 10.5 : 1 JE pistons with various bits and pieces from Rennwerks and Supertec. Looks like Tom Sch has the Rennwerks twin plug dizzy as do I; nice piece.

My stock rods got the once over by Rennwerks and received Raceware bolts. Although I have not driven the car yet, I have run the motor in and let's just say it likes to rev; like a light switch. I can't wait to drive it.

Lindy

Absolutely, Tom that is great, impressive! SmileWavy

Can you share your source on the fiberglass parts?

village idiot 03-27-2010 09:40 PM

Shane, thanks for coming by today and giving me a ride in your beast! That motor absolutely rips!! When I finished up @ the shop today I took my Carrera home and punched it a couple times, and by comparison, yours is more responsive.

Not to mention the incredible music it produces when the PMO's are fully open and the dual exit muffler barks..................Just awe-inspiring:D

Shane

How can the redoubtable Craig Garret, or anyone else, "recondition" rocker shafts?

I suppose they could be polished, but mine (I have a large bag full of used ones) are either somewhat scored (despite reinstallation with the "good" part toward the engine), or actually worn to where I can feel the edge of where the bushing ran.

Will polishing remove the normal scoring/wear indications?

snbush67 03-28-2010 04:13 PM

Walt,

I sent them to him with my rockers not expecting anything, they were and still are slightly scored but well within spec.

He simply polished them and mitigated the scored surface.

I really had to work to find the original wear marks and did install using the "good" side.

I used the term "reconditioned" because it sounds more technical than saying "Budget Polish". ;)

Shane

The shafts most times look worst than they actually are. Most measure out at .7082 and new is .7086 Here is one that was measured then just polished. With the new bushings the shafts should really never again scar up like with the bronze bushings.
