964 cams in a 3.2l, cam shims?

Should I go ahead and get some extra cam shims to line up the chain? I've got the existing 3.2 shims but wondering if it's normal to have to add some for the 964 cams?

There is no absolute answer for the shims but these cams spec book quotes the numbers but its still for the builder to measure and be satisfied that the chains are running properly.

Yea, I'm just wondering if there is a trend for the 964's using more or less.

I just installed 964 cams in my 3.2 and NO change was needed to the shim stacks that were already there. Four on the right, three on the left, and the sprockets were aligned within spec (+/-0.25mm). I reused the sprockets, shims, washer, etc. from my stock setup.

That's because you have special cams.

Did you get your rockers in yet? Time to mate that engine with the new trans and take it for a spin. Not literally of course with all the snow you're getting.

Ed,

Yes indeed, these are special cams! Thanks much! (they came from Ed, so he would know....)

You underestimate how incredibly slow I am. I found two hours to work on it yesterday, and got exactly two rockers in place (#1 & 4 intakes). Of course, cam timing took up a chunk of that time, but I am slow!

964 Cams...

964 profile ground on your original cams?
964 profile ground on new billets?
964 profile ground on donor core cams?
964 cams with the power steering nub ground off?

As others have mentioned you need to measure the sprockets for parallel. Easy to do to and adjust.

Cheers
