Crank, bore, plastigage, in. lbs
'74 2.7L
Did a test install with the crank, nothing but the crank and bearings. First used the plastigage, no oil on the bearing lite oil on crank from the shop, I think he said WD40. The plastigage was consistent 2 thru 7 bearing shells reading about 0.003", #1 bearing a little tighter at about 0.0015", does this sound about right? After cleaning off the plastigage I reinstalled the crank with 30w oil to see how many inch lbs. it would take to start the crank rotating, could not get the inch lbs. torque wrench to crack, its a sear model with minimum reading of 25 in. lbs, even backing the dial to what should of been 5 in. lbs it would not crack. The crank spins real well. Here's a pic of the plastigage, the flash made it hard to see I had to darken the photo to make it visible. Does this all look and sound OK? The case was lined bored. ![]() |

I did some searching and I see that plastigage isn't real accurate, since this has a fresh line bore it should be just right. It is interesting that before the line bore the plastigage check was tighter and not as consistent clearances, the crank did stick just a bit once torqued.
