Victor Reinz?
What's up with the Victor Reintz gasket kits? I've got whats to be a engine gasket kit #911-100-901-10 so far I see missing the locking tabs for the oil pump and only one large seal thats used at both the oil pump and oil cooler, it does have 5 small seals. No nylock nuts either. Should I expect something else missing?

The set doesnt come with the locking tabs, nylocks arent included but it should have all the oil seals unless youre doing a 3.0 then there is 2 different sets, top and lower sets.

Yep it should have 5 green seals and a red IIRC.... However look twice. Sometimes the larger oil seal is green too and easy to miss. If you want nylocks you have to buy the valve adjust kit... Locking tabs never included either. (Though they should be I think)

Yep, I have 5 small green seals and 1 large red. Need 2 large seals, 1 at the oil pump and one at the oil cooler.

How effective are those locking tabs? I have my doubts.

They should work well. I used the Wrightwood racing kit with all Viton seals for the rebuild.

I thought the green seals are the viton?

They should be. When I did my rebuild the VR kits were not viton. That's why I did the Wrightwood kit. That was three years ago so that may have changed. Are the case through bolt o-rings green or blue in the kit?

There blue, I bought the green ones separate.

The locking tabs are used because you should not tighten the oilpump nuts very tight. The factory does this (and so should everybody else) so the pump can actualy move around a little bit. This prevents the oilpump shaft from wearing out its bearing surface.

Where do you get this info from? A loose oil pump? What's the difference if you torque to 12 lbs. or 18 lbs. how is the pump going to move?

I'm not talking finger tight. you want them good and snug but not torqued up as tight as would most 8mm nuts. I noticed the oilpump shaft galled and burned up where it enters the pump on a motor i was tearing down. I asked a long time 911 engine builder about what would cause that. He told me it usualy happens when the pump is to tight and with heat expansion it puts the shaft in a bind. He said thats why they use locking tabs

Well I sure appreciate tips from mechanic's, I put mine down to about 18 lbs. I still can't see how this will allow the pump to move less than 12 lbs. The original oil pump from my engine was so stiff that it took a bit of muscle to turn it and it was factory installed. I did show it to a local mechanic and he was amazed at how tight it was to spin.
