stupid question 1001, oil pipe connections

Hi all, this maybe a stupid question, but i can,t find any clear pictures or diagrams on here, i,m back dating my 1976 2.7 exchangers and have just had delivered the two new oil pipes to go with them, but how they fit?. I know the short one goes on the engine and it looks like the longer one connects to that, but then all the diagrams i,ve found show the pipe connecting to the oil tank, where as the old pipe i have taken off connected to the engine and then joined a pipe which goes to the front oil pipes , any help would be great .

cheers Rik
