Cam questions..rockers etc.
Ok, I did a rebuild on my engine 2 years ago....
I looked at the rockers and replaced about 3 or 4 of them because they were worn...and a couple of valves....and guides......and seals...etc... When I got it back together it had the tapping sound... we went back in and tightened the rockers and it never got worse or better...just the standard light tapping. My friend did a rebuild on a 3.0 motor and put all new rockers in....It was absolutely quiet...amazing.. Now, I have considered doing the same....but have a question about the procedure.. Do I have to go back in and readjust the cams or can i just do a one for one swap with the rocker arms and adjust the valve clearance once the car is warm...? Am I over thinking the problem here?

Just put the new rockers in but you can only adjust the lash cold. If your lash is out of spec, .1mm or if you have run the cam lobe dry then you have a whole set of new problems that just putting in new rockers wont cure.
For a less expensive way you can send the rockers out and get them rebushed. Bruce |
