Nick in lokasil
I've got an M96 block which had a bent rod in it.
While removing the rod/piston we nicked both side of the cylinder about 1/2 way into the cylinder. Opposite sides, not quite at same elevation. you can see it if you shine a light on both sides and feel it if you run your finger nail across it (only the worst of the two shown below) Is the cylinder compromised? Block toast now? Or should we be able to rebuild? Would we expect maybe the slightest compression loss? thanks, Mike larger nick of the two http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272166957.jpg Close Up http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272166973.jpg Close up (high mag)-- looks worse in picture than in person. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272166988.jpg |
If it's below where the rings travel, you're probably safe.
The stock block isn't nikasil, it's lokasil - had it been nikasil you probably wouldn't have dinged it. |
