Porsche Crest Bruce, My 89 is leaking oil everywhere...

And a fine coating it has.
Monday 4/5 I started taking it out. I dont believe it has been out before. The speedo wires were still plastic banded out of the way, I had to cut off three half shaft bolts and get the shifter connection free of the trans but Tuesday its out of the car. Split off the G-50 and the clutch needs parts.

I'm sure it will sparkle when you are done with it.

Minimum blowby, no streaks in the cylinders. The mains look as smooth as a baby, but as always, the intermediates have to go..
Fresh chain rails and steel lower head studs. The case goes to the hot wash Monday morning., the heads are already there. The G-50 spent time at the high pressure carwash but it didnt cut too much.

Well, the heads are back, 12 guides and a valve job. The engine was tanked, most came off but there is some look of northern winters as part of the finish.
Got the steel studs installed and the heads, cam, cam carrier and rockers all back together and adjusted.

Bruce, that photo of the case w/ the pistons and rods showing - can you give me any points to use in comparision to my rebuild, i.e. mileage relative to what dimensions and wear you found on the P/C? My cylinder bore was worn to
.0007" - .0045. No option other than new P/C for me.

The cylinders are clear of defect, I m just going to put them back together, reseal the engine, reinstall.
The cylinders are alucil so all I can do is live with it, theyre low mileage and will serve the engine well.

The parts came in today so I set up to close the bottom end, get the 2 halves together and through bolts settled. Retorque the cross bolts in the morning and I ll get the piston/cyls on in the afternoon along with the heads.

Had a good Thursday but those snap circlips are such a pain. I thought about it after I locked in the steel head studs that I should have waited until I had the cylinders on.

I came in with the timing at 1.27 left and 1.30 right with 1.4 being max spec. I blew out the cam carrier oil lines and all the ports were free flowing but the cam and rockers were very nice when removed.

It gets tedious getting all the small things back together in the proper order so I dont have to take anything apart after its installed.
I took the chassis to the quarter car wash and blasted the oil off all the way to the torque tube, big improvement.

Looking good!

I just have a couple more pieces to close up then it should be fired by Saturday. Need to band the muffler and put the guard on the cat and find a support for the AC, I had to cut the other one to get it off the AC table. I think I have one in a box.
