Coaxial wire of off distributor...replace?
Getting ready to put the motor back in the car. The coaxial wire off the base of the distributor is chaffed where it plugs into the distributor, I was thinking about replacing it. The problem is, it feeds directly into the wiring loom. Is this wire a tach feed? CDI feed?
Either way, I was suprised that a coaxial wire was used. Why not just a regular 2 strand wire??? Was thinking about replacing the worn section with some regular wire, and splicing it in, but the fact that porsche used coaxial wire is throwing me off... Why did they do that??? Is there a specific reason??? |
Porsche used a coaxial cable to prevent EMI from the ignition (causing misfiring) from interfering with the VERY small signal from the magnetic pickup inside the distributor.
One could also use a properly twisted pair, too. :) |
Thanks for the info, that makes sense... :)
