valve adjustment with problems

Hi All,
Adjusting the valves on my type 911/07,after cam timing.I run into problems when I set TDC for #1,the valves adjust normally, but when I rotate 120 to adjust 6 the intake goes fine but the exhaust wont back off far enough to insert the feeler gauge.I have redone it from the start a couple of times with the same result. It looks as though the rocker oi still on the lobe,if that makes sense.I did a search and some of the answers include broken valve springs etc. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Dollars to donuts you installed the right side cam upside down.

Just undo it, flip it 180 degrees, and retime the #4 and you should be good to go. You may have to back all the rockers off on the right bank to avoid valve to piston issues when doing the flip.

Thanks for the response,I did not remove the cam on that side only the left side, and I am wondering if I have them timed wrong.

In that case, retime the left cam at 180 degrees from where you now have it set.

As long as the two cams are timed properly with relation to each other, the engine will work fine.

You can always reset the distributor by 180 degrees if the timing of both cams is 180 degrees from what it was before and you left the distributor in place.

I went to lunch one time in the middle of the timing and the engine each ran on it half, flip the dist and the other side ran...That was early 80s and a friend called the other day and had the same problem and I immediately recognized it.

Guys, thanks for the guidance, the members of this forum are truly an invaluable resource.

I will undo the left cam timing and clock 180 from present. I assume clockwise direction?
The distributor was pulled when I timed the left side so I dont believe I will pull it.

I had all the rockers backed off when timing.

I will let you know how it goes.

Thank you both
John
