911 T/E cams

Hi From Down-under,

I am hoping you might be able to assist me. I have acquired a pair of cams purported to be E cams, to upgrade my 2.2L '70 T. My mechanic tells me however, that not only are they not E's but they are not even a pair. The part numbers are 901 105 183 0R and 901 105 110 1R. Any help would e gratefully received.

Well those are not e cams. The good news is that they are original S cams. I have a pair of cams with these same part numbers. The left cam (901.105.183.OR) is a 1969-73 911S and 2.7 Carrera cam with MFI drive. The other cam 901.105-110.1R is supposed to be the right side cam originally installed in the same engine. I have heard, but cannot confirm, that the factory used early Solex cam blanks for some of their right side S cams. Does anyone know about this? I'd love to have a confirmation of this. Thanks

You can't count on the numbers being correct. Most cams have been around for several rebuilds and owners and can be ground to different specs. You'll want to measure them to see what you have. One way to do that would be to assemble the top end and map the valve movement with a dial indicator. A better way would be to send to a cam shop and have them measured and refinished.

Thanks Andy,

Good advice, but the first method sounds a bit beyond my capability. They are in very good used condition, so probably don't require refinishing, but I will have them measured. Cheers and Thanks again.

If they were S cams from the factory they are typically stamped with an S on the nose of each cam.

Hello Guys ,

when i 've rebuilt my 2.0 E engine , i discovered that P/N of my camshaft was
also 901 105 110 1R and 901 105 183 OR . I need to check with measure but do you confirm they are S cams ?

I've also throttle body for MFI with 901 110 308 OR and 901 110 101 OR , do you know which engine they match ?

thanks

best regards
