Gratuitous Clean Case Shot
 

Not really re-build related well kind of.... just spent last 4 hours cleaning up internals of the cases it is so satisfying to see something thats 28 years old looking so good...

My case was just like your's a few months ago, not as clean, but pretty close.

Leakproof.

Looking good Leakproof. I will be a while before I get to that stage. Saving for parts and shipping time means I will be off the road until about September. I am however going to keep a blog of progress

What did you use to get the inside this clean?? Just brake cleaner and a cloth??
Somehow I just don't see me getting my case as spotless as yours.

Thanks Geronimo yes the machine shop made a great job on that. As far as cleaning goes after soaking with a water based engine cleaner I hit it with the steam cleaner set as high as it would go. I then hit the bearing webs with some super fine polish and the dremel with some cotton cleaning wheels. 1800 grit paper on the case seal areas. After that about 4 hours with the carb cleaner and lint free cloths. All in all about 6-8 hours cleaning the internals, took a cleaning kit for a 12 gauge and hit all the internal oil lines where the case through bolts are located. Blew through every oil passage I could find and the piston squirters.
I may be a bit anal about cleaning but after years of running and maintaining hydraulic downhole valves in the oil and gas industry I got to know that cleaning and prep work are more than half the battle. Never had a valve fail on me even at 18,000ft and 6,000 psi at 230 deg F. ;)
