2.0 ltr Gruppe car just won't start........

Hey forum,

It's not really a Gruppe car, just need lots of eyes for invaluable input.

1970 2.0 ltr . Left bank of carbs leaking. Previous owner added MDS electronic ignition. Unsure if spark plugs are routed correctly. Has original (Meretti?) distributor. Not sure if Distributor is in correctly. Were getting a firing order, but just pop-bang-V stack flame and nothing else. Did notice huge pressure on one of the return tubes as well as oil in the breather can. If anyone wants to take a crack at what I should be looking for or how this will start, I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

You appear to have identified a number of problems.

Perform a Compression test

Verify that your distributor's points are about to open and you are on TDC #1...Verify that your distributor is firing to #1

Firing order is 162435

#1 is the first cylinder closest to the rear and on your left.

It is important to verify that you are indeed on #1 TDC so you may need to pull the left upper valve cover and check if the intake valve is closed.
