3.6 with ITBs
Any thoughts on the performance potential of a 3.6 twin plug engine with PMO ITBs and electronic (Electromotive, etc.) engine management? I'm trying to determine the best bang for the buck on either an SS engine rebuild or a large displacement engine swap. I really like the clean look of the engines with the ITBs installed.

More info would be helpful, specifically what your budget is and what kind of driving character you like. ITBs work great on a 3.6 but are only necessary for high overlap cams, which make more peak power than factory, but give up low end torque.
Also, you don't want to run stock compression pistons without knock control, which the stock DME offers and Electromotive doesn't. Basically, you can get from stock 964 power to 993 VRam power depending on the motor basis, on up to 100HP/L and beyond, with the latter taking a serious cash commitment in esoteric EMS controls, GT3 crank/rods and fancy valve train. |
You can get into the 400+hp range, reliably w/ the right components

You can run 10.5 with twin plugs (like a 3.6) no problem with out knock control. I would be surprised if one measured the actual CR of a 964 motor and it was above 10.5 knowing Mahle's inability to accurately state CR. :)
If you are going through the expense of and ECU and ITB's though, may as well up the displacement, add some cames, change the exhuast yada yada yada, or buy my 3.4 with ITB's :) Cheers |
