911 turbo ignition system

Finishing up a refresh on a used '89 911 Turbo motor and I've been researching different options for the ignition system. Looking for some opinions on what people have tried and liked as well as what components should be replaced. Right now the ignition system is completely stock.

I'd retain that stock distributor and Bosch ignition unit, if it were me. You need its boost retard feature,..........:)

Steve,

That is certainly the direction that I'm leaning. However, I would like to implement some device that would allow me to integrate a rev limiter and didn't know if there would be any benifit in replacing the coil with an aftermarket device?

Your car should have the factory rev limiter (its at 6750) and the stock coil works VERY well with the Bosch CDi unit.

If you want something better for high-boost operation, you can install an MSD 6AL and its matching MSD High-vibration Blaster coil. That package permits the wider plug gaps that make more HP.

Thanks Steve. You got me talked into staying with the factory bits for this engine. BTW, as soon as I get this motor in the car, I'll be sending 2 sets of heads your way.
