Oil pressure

Hi All, i,ve just primed the oil in my rebuilt 2.7, the oil light goes out after about 5 seconds, but the gauge doesn,t show oil pressure, the needle moves abit.but doesn,t go up, is this ok or should it start to rise on the gauge after 30 seconds of the engine being turned over or will it only start to show when the engine has started,

cheers Rik

Youre not going to have enough flow for oil pressure as though the engine is running. 7# turns off the idiot light but pressure wont develop to any level until you start. The reason to charge the system is to have oil to all the bearings for start up.
When you start, you observe the pressure on the guage because this tells you all the grommets are in place on the oil pump.
