911 Engine/Transmission Sizes.
Does any one out there know if there is a reference with the physical dimensions for engines and transmissions etc. I would like to compare the dimensions of the 3.2 to the 3.6 911 engines
|
The dimensions of the chassis engine bay changed, not necessarly the dimensions of the engine.

Thank you for the Info
I am trying to put a 3.6 in my 58 split window VW bus. I have the Porsche and it is wrecked. I know a lot of guys are doing it with 3.2 engines and a 915 trans. It looks to me as as though the wheels will have to get moved ahead at least 7 inches using the 3.6 and auto trans. That is why i assumed the 3.6 must be a larger engine in stature than the 3.2. The photos i have seen of these conversions show the wheels in the correct place in the wheel wells not moved ahead.
Do you lnow of any guide that will give these measurements ?? My wife may be right, I am confused, but i will never admit it.. Thanks AL |

I am pretty sure that the 3.6 will plug right in to any 911, at least before the age of water cooling. After that, too, I think. What changed dimensionally was the G50 transmission. It is longer than the 915 (or 911 or 901). But you can buy the parts and housing to make a "short" G50. That's how most folks do it when they install a G50 in a pre '87 911. Walt |
