66mm crank,90mm pistons Q

If I put a 66mm crank in a 2.7L case with 90mm pistons it should be a 2.5L. Will this work? Going from a 2.2L to a 2.5L will it make a difference that will be noticed. Thinking a E or L cam and 40 webers. Have a 2.2L with T cams and 40 webers now in a 70 targa.

Yes it will work. This is a very popular engine build with a rewarding outcome when done right. What will this engine project be used for? Street or track & street?

It will work, but it will only be a function of a displacement increase. If I were building an E for the street I would build a 2.7, 2.8, or 2.9.

Street only, restoring the 70 targa stock just looking for a little more power. I don't see the L cam mentioned much. When cruising 90 to 110 the 2.2T seems out of breath.

Great motor, depending on pistons and cams. RS 90mm Mahle compression is too low on a 66m crank, so you need pistons from JE. The 2.2T is out of breath due to cams, as a 2.2E or S are great motors. E & L cams are theame IIRC. L might be Solex (also nice), but can't recall.

I'd be quite happy with a 9.5:1 CR 2.5L w/ Solex cams and 36mm port heads. This would result in a wicked torquey near-200HP motor with over 7000 RPM power.

Do you have the 70.4mm crank from the 2.7 case? Or is the 66mm crank all you have.
Sense this will be street only and if you have a 70.4mm crank, Aaron's suggestion for a 2.7 would work great especially with the E cams you already have.

Thanks I always thought a short stroke big bore engine would be a nice package.
