Engine build advice.
Hi, i am just about to enbark on my first porsche engine build. my plan is to as follows:
3.0 ltr standard crank standard rods mahle rsr pistons 10.5 to 1 heads with 49-41.5 valves fully ported twin plug GE80 cams motec fuel injection Any thoughts on the horse power ? The engines going in a 74 carrera weekend driver fun car. regards Andy. |
Andy,
I couldn't hazard a guess about BHP since there are far too many variables, but it will do very well provided you do everything right. Heads are the key to HP. Bigger isn't always better,...:) Airflow and velocity are the keys. I would NOT use OEM rods. Pauter, Arrow, or Carrillo's are much better. You need to do some oiling modifications to the crankshaft, main bearings and case for the engine to live at the RPM range this is capable of. Further, you will also need some close-ratio gears for this combination to perform. :) :) |
Hi Steve,
Already have the heads so would prefer to use them. Oil modifications are already done. Need to source distributor and leads; do you sell them? It's a 30mm anti-clockwise rotation. Also, what sort of cost are the rods? Maybe send me a pm if you are able to supply. Thanks, Andy |
I'll take a swag at BHP. I think the potential for 250-270 at the crank is there. As Steve says, there are far too many variables and only a dyno at the end will give you the answer.

Hi Tom
Wow that’s an impressive build and stunning car. |

I'll second that. Great job Tom.
