Fan and Fan Housing During Rebuild
 

Question: I am rebuilding a 1974 with the original stock 11-blade fan (or was a replacement). I have polished the fan housing and the fan blades. At this juncture do I paint either the blades or the housing? If so, do I use powder coat or jet hot coat? Thank you--zioo

Doing a quick search on Jet Hot coating it appears to be geared towards exhaust systems. You do not need that much heat protection.

I powder coated my blades red and the housing black. I think this is your best option. One year after the powder coating all I do is use a dry rag and wipe off the dirt on the leading edge of the blades and it looks like the day I installed it.

Do not "paint" the fan with spray paint unless you use a single stage urethane with hardener. Even then, I don't know if the paint can stand up to the heat and abuse. I would not use a base coat clear coat paint. This paragraph is just my opinion and is not based on what I have seen.

I think the clear coat rub for me is that I used a can of lacquer clear coat on my fan years ago after polishing and within a year or so it started flaking off. This is not the same as base coat clear coat - much weaker. So I may be full of s*it. Get it powder coated and you will not be sorry.

On the fan I used used clear primer and clear wheel epoxy and it looks decent and seems to be easy to maintain, chips wont show.

I used black hi temp wrinkle finish on the housing.
