They don't want to work with it, because its sort of a bodge job. 10 years behind commercial systems in user friendliness.
In the long run it's probably cheeper to buy a system that the shop who will do the mapping knows well.

Put a trigger wheel outside the crank pully and mount the trigger on the engine mount. Thats how I did it.

I think the original question was "is EFI an option for this build"? Compared to carbs the wallet says no. Unless ITB's are used ($3500 from PMO) and an ECU from whoever ($1500) plus all the other parts like fuel rails, injectors and misl. parts the EFI option is no where near the bang-for-the-buck as Webers or PMOs.

Talking with our local EFI guru, a conservative budget of about $10,000 would be needed to do it right which includes all the parts and set-up along with mapping. Dyno time is extra. So the answer is sure, if you want to spend more money on your induction than you did on the entire motor knock yourself out. If you want your hot-rod to make HP and not break the bank, wait for another good set of 46s to show up in the classifieds. For under the price of a convoluted CSI to EFI kit that would not be adequate for the power you're building, you could have a nice set of Webers.

No doubt EFI is more accurately tunable than carbs but the question remains is it worth the extra clams? I say no.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1282341990.jpg

Thanks Lindy. I am not sure I am ready to use my laptop to tune my 911. There is something about carbs that really appeals to me - whether it be old techology or not. I also can't discount the 'bang for buck' statement and I agree. I spoke to our local 'performance' guy and he said that carbs, in particular PMO's just work and he himself had tried, carbs, MFI and EFI. He felt carbs were the right choice for me. I don't want to spend $10K on a fuel system - to be honest I'd rather spend $4K on carbs and $6K on the gearbox/clutch.

There is something about carbs that I like. It may not be entirely rational but neither is spending lots of $$$$ on a hobby! A 3.2SS with carbs is proven so I am 99% sure I am sticking with this option.

I really appreciate all the comments - the input is taken on board.

Thanks to all who have contibuted.

One thing I forgot to mention about carbs; there is nothing in this world that sounds sweeter than a flat six with carbs and headers. The carbs have a sound that is an octave or two above that of the exhaust and the two together have a harmony like no other. A V-8 in a GTP car sounds pretty good though like a Dyson Chevy. But the whale of a flat six is something else.

Another good reason. I hear that sound on other 911's and I want it on mine :)
