sporto motor question

hey guys

i have a 1975 sportomatic that has pulled its head studs and needs a rebuild. Since its going to take me a long time to get to the rebuild on the motor, i want to run a 77s 2.7 that i have sitting around so i can keep the car on the road while the og case is getting repaired. i have two questions that i hope someone can help me with.

1. can i just remove the cam plug out of the rear of the non sporto motor and bolt up the sporto oil pump?

2. and does the non sporto cams have the drive required to engage into the sporto pump.

everything else looks to be a straight forward swap, i plan on just swapping all the injection and accessories over to the later motor.

any help would be great.

cheers ed

The back of the cam has 2 holes that get roll pins, a paper seal with 3 holes like the front of the cam and the oil pump has a cross pin that is driven by the rollpins.
My disclamer is it has been several years since doing one.

Bruce

thanks for the quick response,

can i just remove the plug by just tapping on the the side of it and roll it out so i dont have to remove the cam to drive it out.

thanks ed

You should be able to drill a hole in in and pry it out. It is only as deep as the recess and there is room back to the cam. The oil pump is the reason for the 3rd 3 bolt cam seal that is in the rebuild kit.

Bruce
worked out perfect drilling the hole and prying, and i even had plenty of spare cam seals from past motor builds.

its going togather should be running soon.

cheers ed

'77 has a one-year only 340 degree numbered temperature gauge and uses the same sensor as the 930 and 3.2 motors. The '75 gauge (which expects the early or SC sensor) will read low with that sensor.
