rocker shaft question

I am putting my 2.2 back together(at a glacial pace) and I put the rocker arms and shafts in last night.I had marked them as to which cylinder and intake and exhaust, but while putting them back I noticed that Number 2 intake went in really easy and number 3 intake really hard,it got me to thinking maybe they somehow got switched. Is it worth the risk of keeping them there or should I switch them and see how they fit?
Thanks for the insight in advance
John
P.S. I don't remember having problems getting them out

Is the shaft going in the cam tower hard or is the rocker arm hard or binding on the shaft?

Craig,
The shaft went in hard.Does not seem to be binding. It just took more force to get it to the correct positon in the cam tower.

That is not uncommon, the ends flare out to seal so they may not all be the same. I would be more concerned if I had a real loose one because they only expand about .002 so it is a close fit from the start.

The tower is just worn a little, mine did the same some shafts fit tight some a bit loose. You need to torque the shafts to 18 lbs. to prevent oil from leaking, 12 lbs. as shown in the book will usually leak.

Okay,so 18lbs torque,do they "walk" in the tower and if so what kind of damage could occur?
Also would I hear something prior to that? It is in my 914/6 so acces for the intake are pretty easy, should I plan on popping the valve covers off after say a couple hundred miles to check that side?
Thanks,
John

They can walk out, don't know if you will hear anything until the rocker drops off. But I'd think oil would start leaking before that happened.
