Got the heads on today
Well I had a good day today got the heads on and the cam towers, took a bit of tweaking on the left side the cam was a bit tight but played around with torque pattern and got it right. I actuall now have the left chain case on and the sprocket on. Dial gauge set up and rocker in #1 intake ready for the morning cam timing to 964 specs.

Before you torque the heads you need to set the cam carrier. You have 18 studs to hit and they wont line up like that, the heads have to be able to move.
This is the way the factory pre assembles them in the 80s. , then everything just bolts up. Bruce http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1284589711.jpg |
Did that
Bruce thanks for the advise and thats what I did, the cylinders were not torqued down at that stage, I placed the heads on dry ran the cam towers tighten down a few nuts, took off cam tower, applied sealant re-installed cam tower and tightened down nuts snug, then torqued down head stud barrel nuts to 10Nm then back and torqued down cam tower nuts with cam installed, then back to head stud barrels to 32Nm I am sure thats what Wayne recommends, takes a bit of fiddling but best way to ensure all straight and that cams do turn.
