3.0 SC build stock or street ?

Hi. I have an early 930/02 engine that needed a full strip down to replace broken head bolts. My question is do I rebuild as stock and re plate the cylinders and put all new bearings etc in and sell on to someone who requires a stock engine and CIS for their early SC restoration or do I rebuild with 3.2 pistons and cylinders new street cams and a new set of PMO carbs. I know the latter will cost considerably more to build but at one point street engines that could be fitted to any car were in high demand, nowadays stock engines are more desirable for the impact restoration which are fetching better money by the day. I would appreciate any input about this. On the 3.2 upgrade side of the build, if anyone has done this recently I would appreciate a link to a thread build if they can. Thanks guys and girls.

It's never going to be a matching numbers car for peak original value, so I'd do the highest horsepower per unit cost option.

However, assuming you go for the tuned option, I'd build it for a particular concept of car, e.g. a 911S, Carrera RS, RSR, Iroc, 911R, 911S/T etc. at least in terms of looks and peakiness.

Easy to spend somebody else’s money, 3.0 modified will cost you a lot per hp. $6000 just for cylinders and pistons.

I can get the original cylinders opened up and plated for a very reasonable price, Wossner or JE pistons on top of that but that will take it to a solid 3.2. It’s the carbs that will cost the most. Most of the build cost would be standard for a good quality build for longevity. I’m not going to cut corners on the bones of the build. I’m just not sure if it’s worth more stock or street. Rebuilt can be 30k plus for a well built motor.

If you have time on your hands, want value for money and enjoy a project then you can buy two triumph triple itb's and megasquirt injection to give you excellent performance and economy for less money than carbs.

I’m unsure which way to go, I have a 69 T that I have always wanted to “ R “ look so I was thinking of putting the 3.0 SC in that ( if I ever find the time ) I’ll need to run it in so it could be a good option to keep for a while.

For a 69T I'd likely do a mid to high performance with weber carbs (or PMO) to keep it somewhat stock-ish looking. I wouldn't mess with the CIS for this build.

The 2.0 is a sweet engine. With E cams and a little head work there's more than enough power to haul ass on the street when you want to. I also love my 901 gearbox.

You can only open them up from 95 to 97mm, then add pistons, plating it’s not that cheap especially right now.

That’s the way I was thinking of going. I still think that a rebore is going to be cheaper than new cylinders. Here in the UK we don’t have the upgrade kits that are easier to find overseas. Import tax and duty makes things expensive.
