If it's an aluminum case, you can build big... But big 2.8s on early parts are expensive. Ask me how I know .

If you want to keep the build cost reasonable then you have to play in the sand box Porsche provided. In other words stock 36 mm S ports. Good port work to go beyond out of the box is expensive.

That said you have $10 worth of flow. How do you want to spend? I suggest one of two options. A 8k 2.2l high flyer or Gradys 2.8S. The money goes different places.

The small motor will require shuffle pins in the case (do turbo squirters while your there) and use a big oil pump (930, GT3 if you find one) and cross drill the crank. Run a hot cam like a DC80 or RSR sprint. Toss in some aftermarket lighter weight rods.

The 2.8S doesn't need all the bottom end goodies since you keep it below 7300 since it runs out of port on top. Mod S cam. Do not bore and replate 90s unless they are without the CE groove. It's mighty thin with the groove and the factory elimated it due to breakage from detonation. A whiff is all it takes.

Run as much compression as you can afford at the pump.

Either one get the second plug added while the heads are off. It's like 400 bucks. Put a plug in it and bolt the bottom cover back on. When you get around to improving the ignition they are already there waiting. Future proof aginst lower octane gas.

Either motor is a hoot.

Ed Mayo built a 2.3 on my early S aluminum case using custom Venolia pistons and reboring my cylinders. I have twin ignition. I have all the go fast stuff inside and it is a fun motor. I modified my Webers to be 42mm and am using 34mm venturis.
