Competition Engineering

I have some welding I need done on a 72 S case to fix some small cracks. I've heard very good things about Competition Engineering - can anyone vouch for their magnesium welding skill?

I tried to ask Walt the owner himself, but he's out this week and the answering machine is on.

Thanks,
Ted

I was just out at Ollie's where Ike showed me a mag case he had welded. It looked pretty good.

He did my 912 heads years ago. Very nice job.

I had a tone of work done by Competition Engineering on an early aluminum 911 case to prepare it for racing use, including a bunch of welding followed by planing on the case halves to bring it back to standard after an apparent spun bearing. I was very happy with the work 13 years later. I think Walt was the owner at that time. But of course my case was aluminum, not magnesium.

My only experience having Mg welded was on a tranny, and it broke again right after the fix. Personally I try not have deal with welded magnesium anymore.
