Lubrication (AGAIN!)

I have been reading for the past several years about engine oils and the ZDDP that has been reduced in most engine oils today.

Out of fear, I am using Brad Penn racing oil (green) that supposedly still has sufficient levels of ZDDP to protect our engines.

What I want to know is:

Has increased wear or flattened cams resulted in 911 engines not using Brad Penn oil?

For years, we used Castrol GTX 20W50 until we heard about the magical ZDDP being taken out.

I am no lubrication expert and I'm not a chemist, and I'm not really an engine "builder" (more of a measurer and assembler), but I would like to hear what the experienced engine builders currently use and recommend for use in customer cars.

Yes, according to Charles Navarro and others.

Engines show wear running things like Castrol GTX, which has alright levels of Z and P but is just bad oil stock- shears too easily.

Engines hold up better with things like Brad Penn with good base stock and the Z and P. There are others- M1 V-twin, I think, some Redlines, Swepco... but they are more expensive.

I used to run Castrol GTX in my motorcycles, way back in the 70's when I was young and crazy.
Anyway i had this BMW 100-S and doing a valve adjustment I realized that the GTX left a lot of gummy sludge in the Valve cover bottoms,my friend also had a 100-S,but used Quaker State, his covers where nice and clean inside!!
That was the last time I used Castrol GTX in any of my motors. ;)

Cheers
Walt
