Cam Sprocket Question
I can't tell from my "tare down" images if the cam sprocket is suppose to be loose on the cam its self.
I switch from CIS cams to E cams and the cam sprocket has a lot of play and not really centered. Does the spring washer and dowel pin keep it in place? Any advice, thanks. |
As you can see the cam gear hangs on the cam shaft, note the pin is not in place but it just doesn't feel correct with the pin in place

I don't think those cam sprockets don't go with those cams.
Or, the cams are slipped just a bit too far into the cam carrier. The I.D. of the sprocket should ride on a wider spot on the end of the cam (just past the threaded portion of the cam). It appears that the sprocket is resting on the threaded portion of the cam. just my $0.02 |
The face of the adjuster flange should be even with the keyway slot and the sprocket should mount on the same OD section of the cam, flush with the adjuster and behind the treaded nose of the cam.

You need to be sure the thrust washer and alignment shims are in correct, then make sure the end float of the cam is biased toward the sprocket, there will be enough to position the sprocket in place once that is done.If you have all the rockers in place the spring load will make it tougher to move the cam but it will move up against the thrust end plate.

And make sure the key is under the backing sprocket, not behind it.
