Not found in the Bosch archives. I assume this is an aluminum body with integral timing sector? John

Yes, 0 231 169 010 is for a 911S 2.4 1972-73
And yes, it should be fitted with a vacuum advance. Like this: ![]() Is it for sale? |

Here you go. A pic from before it was cleaned up:
![]() This one has part number 0231 169 008, which makes it a 1972-3 911T distributor. All 1972-3 2.4 distributors are identical in appearance, components and specs. Only reason for the different Bosch numbers is that they came with different rotors. The S rotor has a rev limit of 7300, E version 7100, and the T 6500 revs. 0231 169 008 is for the 2.4 911T 0231 169 009 is for the 2.4 911E 0231 169 010 is for the 2.4 911S Same distributor came in a version with inverted points. These distributors have these Bosch numbers: 0231 169 003 for the 2.4 911T 0231 169 004 for the 2.4 911E 0231 169 005 for the 2.4 911S |

The 0231 169 010 distributor should have the vacuum unit fitted. All 2.4 distributors came with a vacuum unit originally.
A likely explanation why some of these distributors are now missing their vacuum units is that they could have been removed from their original engines and used on carburetted cars, where a vacuum unit was not always needed. This could be the case with the dutch distributor in your link and maybe with the one you bought, too? A stock 911S 2.4 should definately have a vacuum unit fitted to the distributor to make the engine run right. If you post some pictures of your distributor seen from the top and from the side, I can show you where the vacuum unit goes.

The vacuum unit is for vacuum retard @ idle to help with nox levels for the smog requirements.
so everything off of idle is mechanical advance.
