throwout bearing guide tube removal

If it isn't one thing, it's another. I've spent three times more time trying to get a few things unstuck than I have disassembling.

This time it's the throwout bearing guide tube. According to Bentley, I can make a hooked tool out of a piece of wire and lever the tube off. No dice. That thing is stuck on like it's been cemented. A rap with a mallet didn't help. I don't want to break anything. (Well, I do, but nothing on the car.) Is there any reason someone would have used an adhesive? Is it ok to try some heat?
