O2 and Cat Delete Question

My 1983 SC has a backdated exhaust system with cat delete and a 2 in 1 out muffler. This is the way the car came to me when I inherited it.

My question is this: While working under the car changing heater hoses I noticed in the left back fender (driver side) has two wires that have been tucked away. It would appear that they went to the O2 sensor at one time. Will not having an O2 sensor connection negatively affect my car? The car runs strong and has no unusual nuances other than the idle appears to be a tad high at around 1000 rpm.

I live in an area that does not require emissions testing so I am good there. Just want to be sure I am not negatively affecting the car.

You might consider having a bunge hole installed to put an ox sensor in. Its part of a lean down sustem. If the system isnt working properly the system goes rich. The wires would run through the left side sheet metal to a white plug below the fuel filter.

Bruce,
I pulled the plugs to change them a couple of weeks back and noticed that four of the six were black and oily. I am sure the rings on this car need to be replaced but it could be running a bit rich. Other two looked perfectly normal. Nice tan color.

Would you put the bung hole on the heat exchanger pipe just before the muffler connection? I have attached a photo for reference with a couple of spots. Thoughts?

Youre going to come through the left engine tin about 2 inches back from the front panel. I would go through just behind where the 3 pipes come together.
All you need is a nut that holds the steering wheel on, weld it on the pipe and open the hold. The threads are correct for the ox sensor. Just a single wire Bosch will do the job.
