CDI box or other?

I want to go back to a distributor as my DFI is aging and no longer have parts availability.

Question: Which CDI to use? Factory box? Or MSD 6AL or Crane Hi-6?

I have Bosch distributor, 7200rpm rotor.

Will be going on 2.4 engine, 2.2S pistons, solex cams and Weber carbs.

Reason I am asking, is that would like to get a new CDI box and used ones are expensive and hit or miss, and the permatune box is $400 give or take new.

Anyone using any of these aftermarket CDI boxes or have suggestions for me?

Cdi

Its really tough to beat an MSD 6al, for the money you have a dead solid rev control, quality ignition and available in most every city if you had to have one in a pinch. use the hi vibration blaster 2 coil, it mounts and apears like the stock coil. We have tested everything comparable and like these. CDI is a much better spark, just be sure to use a spiral core resistor style plug wire and non resistor ends like the magnacore etc...

Thanks mike and Steve. That is what I want, parts availability.

Will get the MSD6-AL and coil as suggested. What Rotor do you run with this set-up? Any distributor mods necessary?

MSD 6AL is great but sometimes the rotor may give you issues. (search rotor melt down) I loved My MSD but always carried a spare rotor.

rotor

I have seen the results of stock rotors and MSD, I have not looked at the whole picture to see what the problem is but I have a good idea, if you have the resistor ends and the resistor nipples on the dist cap along with the resistor in the rotor it more than likely builds too much energy, The OEM wires are a solid core with basicly no resistance, so if you add spiral core plug wires which usually have about 800 ohms per foot and use the factory ends the MSD system will build a tremendous amount of heat/spark. All the systems that run MSD the way they want it uses no resistor ends only the spiral core wire with around 800 ohms per ft. that deals with the RF issue fine, we have run the same cap/rotor etc. on our race car, cust cars, street hot rods this way for years with no issues, I have seen people remove the resistor in the OEM rotor and solder a heavy copper link in place and repot them, I think that works fine. If you have any input I think it will benifit alot of people.
