GT3 oil pump questions
So I dug into my GT3 pump on a whim... Unfortunally I found this on the primary scavenge side.... The damage is limited to only one of the gears and the one housing. Everything other stage looks awesome.
So questions: 1. Since the scores are radial, do I sandpaper the peaks and live with it? Is a bit of file love on the gear teeth in need as well? 2. Are the housings for all the big pumps interchangeable? Anybody got damage on the other end and want to sell the parts :D? 3. What goes into 'flowing' a pump? It looks darn good in there. Its my understanding that the sharp transition between the curved walls and the oil flow path is required and those should not be radiused. Is this true? t http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299684659.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299684679.jpg |
Tadd,
You're gonna hate me for saying this, but I would not install that pump in any engine that will see north of 7K RPM. I don't know anyone with an "oil pump dyno", to confirm scavenge and pressure performance and Porsche doesn't provide any specs, either. The housings are unique for each model of pump and are not interchangeble. Given the cost of these things, I'm sure you'll get other diverging opinions however, given whats at stake, I would not use that in anything we do here. |
Steve:
It figures . Luck(!) the price was very good... unfortuanlly I owe kenik money and cant take him behind the woodshed :D:D:D:D. If I find a good 'tail cone' from another GT3 pump that say, got lunched in the pressure section... could I just make the 'bolt in' swap or is there some sort of tolerance 'hand fitting' that is required? ...Or am I just shopping for a new pump and have a pile of parts on hand? t |

Are gears in the GT3 pump supposed to have those notches in
them? They look uniform but I've not seen them before on earlier pumps. andy |
I thought they were the other half of those circumferential housing scores- looks like the oil pump ate some hard grit.

Big win for Flieger. Notches in the gear should not be there.:(

HI Tadd
I still have the oil pump from the NUT in the pump, some photo's for you, the marks are marks/light scratches, also the gears, if any good, have been using the pump case as a dummy for engine building, if you think you could use it drop me a PM. regards mike PS do not forget shipping as I am in the UK? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299749202.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299749230.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299749262.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299749288.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299749314.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299749375.jpg regards mike |
