Pulled engine from my 76 S now wire question

Engine removal was much like described in Wayne's book. Had 1 bolt where a nut should be and 2 wires I did not know about. The wires ran from the bundle with the solenoid and starter wire and ran straight into the tunnel. I cut the wires because I discovered them at the wrong time. They are the 2 at the bottom of the photo. Can anyone tell me what they are for ?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299981109.jpg

Back up lights, goes to the nose of the transmission. There should be a speedo wire too from the side of the trans to the chassis.

Speedo wires to the side of the tranny maybe?

The Green with Yellow Stripe, and Grey with Brown Stripe, go to reverse switch back up lights.

The ring connector looks like it connects to the big battery wire terminal on the starter, and goes to the alternator. And the other wire with the spade connector looks like it would be the starter solenoid actuation wire.

But I didn't look up wire colors on the diagarm.

The wires you show are certainly not for backup lights, nor for the speedo.

If the wires you show aren't the ones you cut, all bets are off.

Walt,

Look lower in the picture, by the outlet tube for the passenger side H/E, you can see the cut wires which exit off of the main harness. :)

Opps

:oWell how about that. I unhooked the wrong wires. I don't know what I unhooked but it was part way down the left side of the gear box (speedo). The wires I cut are for the back up light.

Ah, right. Next time Ed does something like this and takes a picture, he will unwrap a bit of the scene of the crime to show the wire colors.

Had I been sharper I might have gotten the puzzle right, as I know the backup lights come from the engine side, whereas the speedo wires are separate and come from the firewall.

Now if a guy just did what the Factory said to do, and took out engine and tranny as a unit, this wouldn't have been a problem. Instead you'd get hung up on the speedo wires. Easy to forget something.

Back-up light wires.........

Look at the attached picture. That's the back-up light you just cut!!!!! Pull out the rest of the wire and use connectors. You should be able to fix it with minimal effort.
