Help Identify this piston/cylinder set
I came into a possession of a set of 911 piston/cylinders and was wondering if somebody could help me verify and price them. By the part # on the mahle box (930 103 990 01) they are for a 911 3.2l engine. That's great but I would like to make sure that what's in the box is corresponding to what is written! By the looks of them they don't look new, but well cleaned (nice cross hatch on the cylinders) and the rings look new. Could anybody provide any input to me on their condition by looking at the photos....I will need to verify that the cylinder bore is within tolerance, does anybody have the tolerance #'s? Thanks.

More than anything you need the number inside the piston. They are 3.2 and the maker should be Mahle, the number inside the piston should be 95P36 ++ or maybe no +s

Yes I checked they are all Mahle 95P36++. I have a 1980 SC 3.0 so I don't have much use for them unless I could use them to upgrade to 3.2, but not sure what else would be required. Any ideas on how much I could sell them for?? Thank you for any info..

These are the Mahle Nikasil 3.2 set. They appear to be in very good condition.
They can be either the 9.5 CR version or the Euro 10.3 CR version Here's how to tell the difference http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-engine-rebuilding-forum/363526-these-euro-3-2-pistons.html Here are the factory rebuild specs with some example data for the 3.2 pistons and cylinders http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1302345322.jpg |
That is great info Tom, thank you very much.....
It looks like you are measuring the piston diameter in two spots (D1 and D2) and the cylinders in four spots.....By your spreadsheet it looks like the values that I would have to meet are the cylinder wear limit and P to C Clarence, which makes sense. My calipers arms are too short to get a good measurement on the height of the pistons, so will have to find a facility that can do that for me... THANKS. |
The other key measurement on the pistons is the ring lands. The top ring land sees the most wear and should be measured with shim stock or a feeler gauge.
The side clearance with a new ring installed should not be greater than 0.2mm |
Perfect, that is more great info.....you are a really big addition to this site....regards,

Thanks Ed,
It came in a Porsche parts lot but even if its not, very strange that google returns nothing. I check some Mahle sites and nowhere to be found... |
